We arrived at scofield camp late in the pouring rain. We discovered that our mess tent was holey, not in a good way. We unloaded all of the gear onto a tarp and covered it with a tarp since our camp tarp was useless. We spent far too long in the rain trying to set up our tent (which we had never set up before). It took us 20 min just to get the rain fly on the right way so that the boys could get there gear inside. Once the tent was up, we as leaders started to work on our our sleeping arrangements. I set up my hammock and Calvin set up his tent. unfortunately we had boys who forgot thier sleeping bags and sleeping mats so we were in for a cold night.
It was interesting that as we rolled into camp we were staying in the same camp ground (formerly upper lookout) where I stayed in 1987 two years after the camp was opened.
I was especially impressed that the boys worked so hard to prepare camp. Watching these young men run back and forth to the van to unload their gear. When their guear was done, they continued to run and ask what else they could do to help.
